History of the ICC's work on HIV and AIDS

The ICC has been working with UNAIDS since 2003 to address the issue of HIV and AIDS in cricket-playing countries. In 2006, UNICEF added their support to the partnership, and the three partners work to raise awareness of HIV prevention and reduce stigma around HIV.

A series of activities have been delivered at major events including the ICC Cricket World Cup and the ICC World Twenty20. This has included leading stars visiting local community projects, players wearing red ribbons to show their support for people living with HIV/AIDS, school cricket tournaments with HIV prevention messages and HIV awareness public service announcement campaigns.

Some of the leading champions for the initiative have been Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and India’s Virender Sehwag.
