As part of the ICC's commitment to the Spirit of Cricket, a wide range of activities have been undertaken to use cricket for social good.
Since 2003, the ICC has been working with UNAIDS to address the issue of HIV/AIDS in cricket-playing countries and in 2006 UNICEF also joined the prominent partnership which supports the 'Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS' campaign.
A wide variety of activities have been organized, particularly at major ICC events, to raise awareness of HIV prevention and reduce stigma around HIV, with players such as Kumar Sangakkara and Virender Sehwag championing the initiative.
The ICC also partners with Room to Read, a charity that promotes global literacy, particularly in Africa and Asia, with stars such as Shane Watson and Angelo Mathews leading promotional efforts.
The ICC has also delivered a number of ‘Great Spirit’ projects, as part of the ICC’s centenary legacy, in countries including Afghanistan, India and Sri Lanka.
