The aim of ICC Europe is to build a player base using a player centred approach.
The 'Building Blocks' of participation is based on 10 individual aspects which all link together. If you developing or introducing cricket consider the 10 Buildings of Success:
Consider the 'Streams' to Cricket - This means take a look around. Where are Schools, Colleges, Universities, Community Grounds, Other Sports.
Self Awareness - Organisation Awareness - Self Awareness is a development from the 'Streams to Cricket', always be aware of the environment that you are in. Be dynamic in for planning and also your delivery. The key aspect is to think about the 'player' and develop a programme that will encourage them to take part in cricket.
Workforce 'Right People in the Right Role' - this relates to the role of education. Before you start your participation programme consider what people are required to plan, delivery and promote the programme. Coaches, Officials, Volunteers, Administrators all have a role to play and can make a real difference. For further information about Education please visit the Education Section.
Light the Path (Be the Light and Fuel their Light) - This relates to the importance of having a participation pathway. There are two simple questions:
Why be involved in cricket?
What can Cricket offer people?
If you can answer these two simple questions and apply them to your country, club or district you will have a good starting point.
Communication (Our Way or Their Way?) - Communication is key part to a successful participation programme. Again this is linked to Self Awareness and a Player Centred Environment. Consider how players would like to be communicated. In relation to youth development and children you need to be aware of welfare and importance on communicating with the parents and not the children. In today's world we have a range of approaches, Social Networking, Email, Phone, Internet, and Websites.
Establish an administrative structure - As highlighted before getting the right people in the role is essential. One aspect is administration, below is a simple four step process:
1. Consider the planning and promotion aspects
2. Plan the delivery
3. Data collection and ongoing communication
4. Sign Posting Players to Clubs, Competitions and other Cricket Pathways (Education)
Equipment and Facilities - Equipment and Facilities is the 'hardware' and without it you will have significant issues making participation a success. The first step is to consider what you already have and compare this to what you need. Again consider your environment, can you contact a sponsor? What about other sports that could help? The last step is buying the equipment, ICC Europe have official partners and suppliers that can help please click here . If you require more information please contact ICC Europe or your Country Board.
Competition (Different Formats) - Competition involvement is outcome from the above. However it is important to consider what type of competition and length of the game. Consider the environment and look at opportunities. Beach Cricket, Office Cricket, Car Park Cricket, Play Ground Cricket, After School Cricket, Community Cricket, Indoor Cricket, Internet Cricket the list is endless!!!!
