Scoring Courses

The following Scorers qualification Courses and Examinations for all European Scorers will be run by ICC Europe:

  • ICC Europe Introductory Scoring Award (ECB ACO Level 1)
  • ECB Scoring Level 2 qualification
ICC Europe Introductory Scoring Award (ECB ACO Level 1)

This one-day course will be run during a weekend and will feature:

  • recognition of Umpires' signals
  • methods of dismissal (inc. a brief explanation of each)
  • basic principles of scorebook entry
  • official symbols to use
  • end of over/match balances and checks
  • good practice and routines for scorers to follow

It will be an interactive Course with the scorer participating at every stage. The Examination will feature a 10 over innings which the scorer will complete using information taught during the Course. Both the Course and Examination are accredited by ECB.

The ECB ACO has agreed that this Course and exam success is equivalent to their own Level 1 and they will recognise the ICC Europe Course as they would their own Level 1.

The student costs are £40 - but this includes all course paperwork, a copy of the Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and Scoring and the first years membership of ECB ACO. The benefits of joining the ACO can be found on their website: http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/ecb-association-of-cricket-officials/membership/ and we recommend that all students take up this free offer. Whilst membership of the ACO is not mandatory in order to take the course and exam, successful students would have to belong to the ACO in order to receive their certificate.
