ICC Europe Coach Education the Journey so far 2010-2011

ICC Europe is committed to develop and deliver high quality Coach Education across Europe in partnership with the ECB, Cricket Scotland and Cricket Ireland. 2011 has been a year of developing coaching resources, looking at the future of Coach Education, understanding the role of informal learning and establishing current programmes and systems.

Below is a summary of what ICC Europe and the 30 Member Countries have achieved in 2011:-

  • Development of the Straight Lines Newsletters from information to education (Issue 8). The Straight Lines new format is now ready and will be used. The actual format and system is the same as the current Europe Newsletter which is sent out every month.

  • Workforce Development and Delivery Plan: The focus was around the ICC Introduction to Cricket Tutors which creates potential to build and develop capacity within each country. 100% Associate and 70% of Affiliate members are able to deliver the ICC Intro to Cricket Course in country.

  • Coach Education Forums via Skype: this is a continued success for Europe. This has created open discussions around Coach Development and Education. We have created a consistent message and have developed a good network of people which will spread the games message across Europe

  • Needs Analysis (what you need): 2010-2013 (369 Courses Educating 3,865 People). As an organisation we need to revisit this ongoing during the year. Member Countries need to be very clear on what they need to deliver their programmes. The Player Pathway should drive this need and coaches need to be 'in tune' with this message.

  • Howzat!: Translation of the 9 languages is complete and along with other ICC Europe documents and Laws of Cricket the update will be sent to all Howzat! users later in the year. This again will create a good opportunity to develop coach understanding. The Howzat! resource will become the centre of all education for coaches therefore it is essential that coaches who have the Howzat! resource use this.

2012 European Coaches Conference 'Potential to Performance'

In 2011 ICC Europe delivered a Coaches Conference 'Coaching the Changing Game' with the aim to develop a coaches understanding of how the game is changing. Following a review of the event ICC Europe will be hosting another Coaches Conference which will be aimed at the performance level.

The Conference will again be held in Guernsey 13 - 15 January at the Guernsey Indoor Cricket Centre.
