The main aim of the Asian Cricket Council in the past couple of years has been to have at least two of the countries qualify for the 2011 World Cup.
Although it fell narrowly short in that aspect, it has somewhat been given a compromise with Afghanistan now becoming Asia's newest ODI nation.
It now set its sights on helping our teams push for the qualifying spots in 2015. Focusing on countries that will take place in upcoming ICC tournaments, the ACC is undertaking High Performance Programs (HPP).
HPPs have already been provided to Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Nepal, Oman and UAE and these programmes all took place in Test-playing countries.
With the introduction of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 and 7, Bahrain, Malaysia and Singapore will conduct HPPs in their own countries over a due course of time.
From the recently concluded ACC U-19 Elite Cup in Kuwait, winners Hong Kong and runners-up Afghanistan proceed to a ten-nation U-19 qualifier later in the year. The top five teams from this tournament will join the 10 Full Members plus host Kenya in the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup 2010. Prior to this qualifier, the two teams will undergo a HPP program as well.
