This is not an ICC eligible or sponsored tournament. The original concept was to provide international competition for Members who could not field ICC eligible teams, with most SA countries now in a position to do this in the regular Americas Senior Men's Divisions the tournament continues to allow the winner bragging rights as Champion of South America. It also permits a new developing territory to play against established ICC Americas Members.
