Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table

In January 2006, six Associate countries were provided with ODI "match status" for their one-day matches played against each other and against the 10 Full Members.

Ireland and Kenya have previously been promoted to the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table and the other four Associate / Affiliate countries with ODI status (referred to as "Associate ODI Countries" from here on) also have the opportunity to be promoted to that table.

They can do this through a formula that also allows them to be ranked on an Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table.

ASSOCIATE ODI COUNTRIES ON THE ASSOCIATE / AFFILIATE ODI RANKING TABLE

Teams are ranked on the Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table above according to the following criteria:
  • highest win percentage in qualifying matches versus other Associates (highlighted above), then if equal
  • most wins achieved against Full Members (highlighted above), then if equal
  • most wins achieved in qualifying matches versus other Associates, then if equal
  • fewest defeats in qualifying matches versus other Associates
There is a rolling 3-4 year qualifying period for matches on the Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table. At the beginning of August each year, the Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table will be updated to exclude all matches played more than three years previously.

Once an Associate ODI Country has played at least 10 matches, including both qualifying matches against other Associate ODI Countries and ODIs against Full Members (highlighted above as Total Matches), in the 3-4 year qualifying period, it has the opportunity to be promoted to the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table.

To gain this promotion, the Associate ODI Country must either:
  • achieve two wins in ODIs against Full Members, or
  • achieve one win in an ODI against a Full Member and also have won more than 60% of qualifying matches versus other Associates (as shown on the Associate / Affiliate ODI Ranking Table).

COUNTRIES ON THE RELIANCE ICC ODI CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE

There is a rolling 2-3 year qualifying period for ODIs on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table. At the beginning of August each year, the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table is updated to exclude ODIs played more than two years previously.

An Associate ODI Country that achieves promotion to the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table would then have a rating on that table, initially based on their results in all ODIs played against any of the existing rated teams (the 10 Full Members plus any other Associate ODI Country on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table) during the 2-3 year qualifying period.

  • Once an Associate ODI Country has been promoted then only matches played against other Associate ODI Countries after their own promotion, and within the 2-3 year qualifying period, are included on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship Table. To progress to, and then maintain, a ranking on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table, all rated teams need to have played at least 8 ODIs in the 2-3 year qualifying period against teams who at the time were also rated on the table.
  • Ireland, Kenya and the Netherlands will continue to appear on the main Reliance ICC ODI Championship table for as long as they maintain their ODI status, and so are not competing on the Associate ODI Ranking Table alongside the other three Associate/Affiliate ODI countries.
  • Any ODIs played by Ireland, Kenya and the Netherlands against any of the three other current Associate/Affiliate ODI countries will therefore have no rating impact on Ireland, Kenya or the Netherlands themselves on the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table, but will still count towards the three Associate/Affiliate ODI country records, in particular their 60% win requirement.
